Bengal takes an approach to safety that illustrates the dynamics of loss control. A basic philosophy of zero-accidents helps set the foundation for a proactive approach to safety. This approach helps to encompass all levels of management from the CEO to the Safety Manager to certified craft personnel.
Our philosophy is simple: zero-accidents is our only goal.
With the emphasis on a zero-accident approach, this allows identification of safety issues in the early stages of planning. This also allows Bengal to enhance our training programs, improve productivity and control costs. Our safety program also includes a comprehensive drug and alcohol testing program, measurable goals supported through incentives and recognition, and a thorough accident investigation program to determine root causes in order to prevent future recurrences.
Bengal supervisors and safety professionals pre-plan each project with this zero-accident philosophy built into the process. There are several key pre-planning safety tools:
- Job Safety Analysis forms
- CAD-Drawn lift plans and diagrams
- Pre-Job Safety Assessments
Bengal's safety programs include:
Bengal developed and implemented the SAFETY PAY$ program in an effort to raise the level of safety awareness and professional performance in our employees.
This is a monthly incentive program that rewards individual employees for their achievement toward putting Safety first along with compliance and performance.
Research has proven that a reward given soon after a behavior is measured has a tremendous impact on the morale of the employee. This will also serve as encouragement for the employee to work safely, and they will consciously want to do the right thing.
Bengal has adopted the guidelines of the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO). Bengal has committed its efforts to ensure that each of our operators becomes NCCCO certified. This program works toward improving:
- Workplace safety
- Reducing risk of loss
- Reducing accidents by increasing skill and knowledge
- Consistent training
